This sweet, five-month old shar pei/lab mix found me one morning. She and her friend were eaten up with fleas and wet, but friendly and grateful for a safe place to rest. I treated the fleas, and took them to the vet for a check up.
A Good Vet Report
No microchip, of course, but the vet estimated her to be about five months old, and in good health as far as anyone can tell.
As a precaution, the vet gave me a prescription for worms and an antibiotic to heal the skin infection from the fleas.
It's been very rewarding to see how well she's healed. Her back side still needs to fill in from where she has scratched herself bald from fleas, but the vet said that should grow back quickly.
The vet verified the breed, and estimated that she will be about 30-40 pounds. Right now, she's 21 pounds.
Her new family will need to take her to the vet for a heart worm test, fecal test, vaccines, heart worm and flea prevention and spaying. That's all normal wellness stuff for dogs.
Good with Kids & Gentle Behavior
Even during a cold bath outside, she has shown NO aggression. After a day or so, I let my four year old visit her, and she did very well. She's just a very sweet, gentle dog.
The last week that she's been in the back yard, she's chewed nothing other than a rawhide. And there's plenty she could have destroyed, cushions, etc. Thankfully she hasn't.
Honestly, I've never seen a puppy as calm as her. She doesn't bark a lot, and she doesn't jump too much. However, she will need some loving training to learn good manners. I've been working on "sit," and helping her get used to a leash.
Good with Other Dogs
She was with another dog when I found her, and they were extremely loving toward one another. They even slept curled up together. We really hoped to keep them together, but I found a good home for the other dog.
Why We Can't Keep Her
We already have a dog, and spend a lot of time out of town. It would be too much with two dogs. My backyard is all swimming pool and concrete. It's really not a good place for a dog to live permanently. However, she's safe and cared for temporarily.
Every No-Kill Shelter Is Full
Yes, that includes Operation Kindness, and the 10 others I contacted.

The right pet parent will have space for a dog and be ready to take care of the additional vet care that's described above to keep her healthy.
Here's a video. Look at the black one. The gray dog already has a home.
I work with rescue locally, and have shared her with lots of rescue contacts. Thanks so much for caring for her so well! Hopefully, I can help to find her a good home!
